The return of Taarna with Anna Morozova and Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal #1
Heavy Metal #1

To celebrate the return of the legendary Heavy Metal magazine, the publisher unveils a collection of bold creations, combining European and American influences. Among the flagship titles of this revival is the Taarna series, the iconic intergalactic warrior made famous by the 1981 cult film. And at the helm of this new graphic incarnation is a rising star of illustration: our artist Anna Morozova!

In this new narrative cycle titled “Legends of Taarna“, screenwriting duo Leah Moore and John Reppion redefine the character’s foundations, all brought to life by Anna Morozova. This project promises to be the definitive version of Taarna, going beyond nostalgic tributes to establish a true contemporary mythology. Indeed, this series offers a bold reinterpretation, where the epic dimension blends with a resolutely modern aesthetic.

Anna Morozova’s style: power and elegance

Anna Morozova‘s work impresses with its ability to combine the ferocity of a brutal world with the mystical grace of her heroine. Her style, both dynamic and detailed, perfectly matches the world of Taarna: from cosmic battles to desolate landscapes. Anna Morozova follows the Heavy Metal tradition while injecting an unique and contemporary touch.

The return of Taarna with Anna Morozova and Heavy Metal

Founded in 1977, Heavy Metal has been a bastion of science fiction, fantasy, and graphic horror since its inception. After several decades of existence, the magazine returns with a new issue #1, published in April 2025, which aims to reassert its throne in the realm of the imaginary world. Under the editorial direction of Frank Forte, Dave Kelly, and Chris Thompson, this inaugural issue promises to be a celebration of European heritage as much as a springboard for today’s talents, like Anna Morozova.

The goal is clear: to push the boundaries of pop culture by offering uncompromising, visually spectacular, and narratively audacious stories.
